| Legacy in the Community Legacy was
founded on the hope that the business could use its unique resources to help make
a difference for those less fortunate.
For Members who volunteer, and
the Legacy staff, the highlight of each year is Legacy Beach Camp.
Legacy Beach Camp is a powerful overnight camp experience reserved
for disadvantaged children living in harsh inner city neighborhoods. The campers
(many of whom have never left their neighborhood) travel to the 4H camp in Niceville
and experience the beauty of the Emerald Coast. The kids play on the beach, go
boating, tubing, fishing, gather and identify creatures of the sea in the marine
education program, build camp fires, laugh, hug, breathe the salt air, and rest
from the streets.
Much more than a trip to the beach, as the
kids experience the beauty of creation they learn about their Creator. For many,
Legacy Beach Camp is a life transforming adventure eternally impacting their life
and the lives they touch as they live out their own legacy.
Our
hope and dream is that many thousands of inner city children will be positively
impacted by their experience at Legacy beach Camp. If this dream has sparked your
interest, please call our main number 850-337-8388 x 3 for information on sponsoring
a child to the best weekend of their life.

"There
was no mention of the cold water, but I suppose if you have never seen the ocean,
no matter how cold it is, it is incumbent upon you to swim in it; its power and
majesty touches you. I stood barefoot on the warm sand, wishing I had a better
camera to capture these beautiful girls' splashing in the surf. A disposable camera
just didn't seem appropriate for the all the wet and gloriously happy faces before
me. As I stood there watching, it seemed as though God was embracing these girls
and giving them the gift of Himself." - Joanna Cook, Techwood Homes
Ministry | Fall 2004 - Techwood
Homes boys camp. Kenny Cash has devoted his life to serving youth in the innercity.
The Techwood boys group experienced some new activities at Legacy in the Community
including crabbing and a sailing trip on the Silent Lady. Fall 2004: Atlanta Youth Academy The highlight
of the camp was presenting Sydneys birthday. He was presented a cake with
his name on it for the first time in his life. Fall 2005: Techwood housing project, Atlanta. For years
Atlanta police refused to patrol Techwood because it was too dangerous. Joanna
Cook who has dedicated her life to serving underprivileged youth in the inner
city has nurtured these girls over the years. The girls from Joanna's ministry
are leaders in the community resolutely striving to live a positive legacy. Spring 2006: Sandy Springs Mission Atlanta - Felix Lora
opened the mission in the heart of this low income Latino community in north Atlanta.
Over the years, Felix has become like a father to many youth in the community.
The mission helps families overcome the cultural barrier, learn English, and resist
the temptation of the drug counterculture that dominates their community.
2008 Legacy Beach Camp is scheduled for May 28th
June 2nd
