Legacy
Nautical School provides top quality boater safety instruction for all boaters
ranging from novices to experts. Classes range from group sessions at our land
school training facility, to private on-water coaching sessions with certified
captains. The mission of Legacy Nautical School is to make boating more
enjoyable by making boating safer. Our students boat with confidence knowing that
they have the knowledge and skills to make wise decisions at the helm providing
maximum safety for their treasured passengers of family and friends.

Whether you are a first time boat owner, new to boating on the local waters of
the Emerald Coast, or an expert looking to improve your offshore fishing skills,
Legacy Nautical School is here to serve you. Legacy Boating Club
Members and non-members may call 850-337-8388 to sign up for a training
session. Training sessions for non-members are customized to apply to a specific
boat or boating interest. 
Schedule
for Legacy Nautical School:
Level I - Boating Class:
The
boating class is a 4 hour comprehensive land and water school covering all aspect
of boating on single engine pleasure boats. Before coming to the class students
will be given a workbook to study. Land school includes navigation and marine
chats, boating safety protocol, club protocol, and study of the local waterways.
In water school, students will be on the boats with a trainer practicing docking,
open water operation, man overboard drills, use of VHF radio, emergency protocol,
and anchoring. Students will learn the systems and features of the sport boats
and large bowriders. (customized for non-members). Students are required to pass
the Level I written and water tests in order to take out any Legacy boats.

City Beach and Orange Beach Level I Boating Class Schedule:
Classes will be scheduled on an as interested
basis. Please call your home port to schedule the class.
Level
II Fishing Class:
The fishing class
is a 4 hour comprehensive, hands on school designed to familiarize students with
basic offshore vessel operation and fishing technique unique to the saltwater
angling experience. Classes will begin with a 1 hour land school in which the
students will receive literature pertaining to knots and waypoints. Students will
demonstrate each knot and be introduced to the necessary tackle. They will then
board the vessel and complete the course with a 3 hour water school. The curriculum
will include twin outboard operation ,offshore marine safety drills and emergency
protocol, use of marine electronics, holding technique, anchor drills, offshore
environment overview, knots , migratory seasons, tackle overview, rigging (baits/tackle),
offshore etiquette ,proper cleaning techniques and bag limit rules and regulations.
Students will demonstrate each task. Upon completion of the class, students will
then receive the offshore endorsement to take the blue water fishing vessels up
to 25 miles offshore.

Level III - Cruiser Class:
The
Cruiser Class is a challenging, two day, comprehensive, hands on, training session
designed to train students to be highly proficient in all aspects of operating
a cruiser. Each day is comprised of a 4 hour water course with a trainer plus
a practice session for students to become proficient at the skills trained. On
day one, students learn the features and systems of the cruisers, (customized
for non-members) docking and maneuvering with the throttles, open water operation,
backing, anchoring, use of the windless, use of the GPS including plotting a course,
reading tide charts, and avoiding unsafe areas. On day two, students learn the
procedure to dock, moor, or anchor the cruiser for overnight trips; study charts
to plan an itinerary; learn how to connect with shore power, safely use the generator,
back into boat slips, use of fenders and dock lines, basic engine knowledge and
trouble shooting, and weather protocol. Before checking out a cruiser students
are required to pass a Level III written and water test.

Level IV Yacht Class:
The
yacht class follows the same curriculum as the Cruiser Class with two additional
days of water training and practice to cover navigation with radar, night operation,
and offshore overnight protocol. Before checking out a cruiser students are required
to pass a Level III written and water test. Yacht Club members will be notified
as to when Legacy Nautical School begins the yacht class schedule. For
